Obama's Moms Return To School Program

For single and stay at home moms looking to get back into the classroom, the goal of continuing your education just got a lot easier thanks to President Barack Obama’s new “Moms Return to School” Government Grant Scholarship program (MRSGGS). The President along with the United States government are offering the new scholarship grant to help mothers pursue their college education.

Mothers who are returning to the work force face a large disadvantage to other potential employees if their resumes have a large work gap. Imagine filling that gap with an associate or bachelor degree.

“But I can’t go back to school, I’m a mom!”
Thanks to the combination of the MRSGGS and online colleges, being a mom doesn’t mean you can’t receive the degree you’ve always dreamed of. You can be a great mom and earn a degree in your spare time. Online colleges can offer you the opportunity to achieve your college dreams.

Attending college online can also cut back on the need for childcare. Instead of driving off to school and dropping the kids off at daycare, inventive mothers manage to juggle kids and study during nap times. Others have even brought their friends into the fold and work out a schedule with their friends now also attending online school.

For most mothers, money is also a huge concern. Even with the ease and comfort of online school, financial resources still must be addressed. Currently the Obama Grants have a maximum of $5100, but come tax time students can also use the American Opportunity Tax credit that grants $4000 worth of fees and tuition.

For those attending school year round, the yearly amount of available funds could reach almost $10,000 towards your degree.

How to Apply:
In order to be eligible for the MRSGGS you must be enrolled at least part-time in a college of your choice. There are literally thousands of online colleges to choose from with equally as many degree programs.

Once you have chosen a school you can apply for the MRSGGS at www.fafsa.ed.gov Just fill out the application and submit it online instantly. Check with your school to confirm their definition of the application deadline. Whether they consider the deadline to be the receipt date and time or the process date and time of the application.

The Moms Return to School Government Grant Scholarship is not the end all be all of grants for college. Take some time to review other grants online. And remember, searching through Grant sites and databases is a fine start, but you should always speak to a Financial Aid Officer or School Counselor for the most up to date options available to you as a student.

As is the case in most recessions, now is a great time for people to attend or return to school. One can ride out the economic downfall while getting an education. And when the economy does finally return to a robust state, you will be ready to take on the new job market with fresh skills.
